USDA National Forage Seed Research Center (Oregon, USA)

A multidisciplinary team of scientists from Oregon State University and the USDA Agricultural Research Service has harnessed the high-throughput and high-resolution features of the Blackbird microscopy robot to develop state-of-the-art deep-learning computer vision models to investigate complex issues related to pests and pathogens affecting hops. The Blackbird system and developed models are assisting in the high-resolution mapping of resistance to hop powdery mildew, evaluation of fungicide resistance to hop downy and powdery mildews, and in the assessment of ovicidal and acaricidal efficacy against the two-spotted spider mite.
